The
what & how of RFNow technology.
What
Frequency band?
RFNow
uses Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) radios that operate
in the 2.4 GHz Industrial, Scientific, & Medical (ISM) band.
The ISM bands are reserved frequencies that do not require federal
or provincial licensing or user fees. RF Now also supports the 3.5
GHz licenced bandwidth.
What
affects the signal?
Line
of sight obstructions are the primary interference in signal from
antennae to antennae. Severe weather has had little to nil blocking
effect on the signal.
How
secure is wireless connectivity?
Frequency
hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) radios in the 2.4 GHz range use 79
channels to hop the data between when transmitting. Each hop has
a dwell time that lasts microseconds. If a piece of data were intercepted
from a channel the remaining pieces of data would have also to be
intercepted to make this information decipherable.
Radio
authentication is achieved through ESS ID value unique to each pair
of radios. Radios will not transmit data to another radio that does
not share the same ESS ID value.
What
type of equipment is used?
RFNow
Inc. built its first network to satisfy a business solution. Due
to the mission critical nature of this network, RFNow has continued
to use top quality carrier class radio and antennae equipment. This
choice of equipment and business philosophy has proven to provide
the high level of reliability that is required in today's B2B environment
How
does RFNow's IT Support function?
There
is a network monitoring protocol that allows our team of technicians
24/7 contact with all radios. In the event of a network interruption
the technician and Navigator Emergency Response Team (NERT) is able
to respond instantly.
The
sophisticated monitoring program has allowed for response and repair
before our client base has noticed a problem with-in the network.
